Incapacity for work

In the event of loss of income through incapacity of work, your mutualité will provide you with a replacement income. The first thing to do is to contact your employer the day you are in incapacity of work. Then, this is up to you to initiate the procedures with your employer and Partenamut.
If you wish to spend your convalescence in your country of origin, check the qualifying period conditions on the site www.partenamut.be.

Employee or jobseeker entitled to allowances

  • What are the document needed?

Send Partenamut the “confidential” certificate of incapacity of work (received from Partenamut) or a document filled out by your doctor, specifying the start date of your incapacity of work and the medical reason. It has to be sent as soon as possible and must be sent by post (N.B.! this document must not be left in one of our letter boxes or in our agencies).

Find below delays to give your certificate to Partenamut (starting on the first day of incapacity for work):

    • 28 days, if you have a non-manual employee's employment contract.
    • 14 days, if you have a manual employee's employment contract.
    • 3 days, if you are a jobseeker entitled to allowances, a temporary employee or if you are undertaking vocational training.

  • What will be the amount of allowances through incapacity?

They are calculated on the basis of the information provided by your employer or your unemployment allowance payment fund and yourself. The first 12 months (primary disablement), they vary between 55% and 60% of your capped gross salary. The first day of the 13th month of incapacity signals the start of the invalidity period, when benefits vary between 40% and 65%.

  • What if I have a "relapse" after returning to work?
  • If you have been back at work for less than 14 days you have only 3 days (starting from the 1st day of incapacity for work) to notify Partenamut and forward us the new certificate of incapacity of work. After 14 days, you belong to the usual system (see above).

Self-employed person

A certificate of disability is specific to the self-employed. Available from Partenamut, it has to be sent within 29 days (starting from the 1st day of incapacity for work). This period is reduced to 3 days in the event of a "relapse" (see above). The benefits for the self-employed are a fixed allowance set according to the size of the family.
