Maternity / paternity

For mothers:

1. You qualify for the Belgian social security system and you are an employee or a job seeker entitled to benefits.
Maternity leave : 15 weeks(19 weeks in the event of a multiple birth), to be allocated according to the following:

General scheme 1 baby Multiple birth
Optional leave (may be taken prior to the obligatory prenatal leave or after the postnatal leave and perhaps tailored to what suits you best) 5 weeks 7 weeks
Obligatory prenatal leave 1 week 1 week
Obligatory postnatal leave 9 weeks 9 weeks
Optional postnatal leave - 2 weeks
TOTAL 15 weeks 19 weeks
  • How to proceed ?
  • When your stop working : send us a medical certificate showing the presumed date of delivery and the date of the beginning of your maternity leave
  • We will then specify the date when your maternity leave ends (considering the period of prenatal leave you fit in and the presumed date of delivery)
  • Eventually, we will calculate your maternity benefits based on the information provided by your employer or your unemployment benefit payment fund
  • After the delivery, please forward us the original copy of the birth certificate. This certificate is issued by the munici¬pal administration.

2. Self-employed woman

You are entitled to 6 weeks maternity leave, allocated according to the following:

General scheme 1 baby Multiple birth
Optional leave (may be taken prior to the obligatory prenatal leave or after the postnatal leave and perhaps tailored to what suits you best) 2 weeks 2 weeks
Obligatory prenatal leave 1 week 1 week
Obligatory postnatal leave 2 weeks 2 weeks
Remainder of the natal leave (may be taken in full weeks or by period of 7 whole days within 21 weeks after the obligatory postnatal leave (about 5 months) 3 weeks 4 weeks
TOTAL max 8 weeks max 9 weeks
  • How to proceed ?
    • Ask us for the maternity benefits application form for the self-employed.
    • Fill in the form and send it to us, along with the original copy of the birth certificate (issued by the municipal administration)

For fathers:

  • Paternity leave: fathers are entitled to a maximum of 10 days (to be taken within 30 days after the delivery). You have to prove your kinship with the child with the birth certificate, issued by the municipal administration

    • the 10 days leave should reflect standard working days ;
    • the first 3 days are entirely paid by the employer ;
    • the next 7 days are paid by the social security system and up to 82% of your gross monthly salary (capped amount).
    • How to proceed ?
      • You have to go to your municipal administration to get the birth certificate
      • Then send it to your Partenamut agency specifying that you are taking paternity leave.
      • We will send you required forms to calculate your benefits

Adoption

Both men and women are entitled to adoption leave equal to a maximum of 6 weeks if the child is less than 3 years-old and to a maximum of 4 weeks if the child is between 3 and 8 years-old. The leave has to be taken within two months starting from the date when the child is registered at the municipal administration. You will receive a full payment from your employer for the first three days, then a Partenamut allocation equal to 82% of your gross monthly salary (capped amount).

  • How to proceed ?

    • You have to go to your municipal administration to register the child.
    • Forward the registration document to Partenamut, specifying that you are taking adoption leave. We will send the forms required for calculating the benefits.
